Still a big kid

Meccano set

Recently I’ve been thinking of ways to build a small jib for my GF1 camera. Initially I hunted around Bunnings, but that lasted for only 15 minutes before I gave up (I always get lost and end up walking up and down the aisles). Instead I headed to Toys’R'Us and picked up a Meccano set which should do the job. I never had a Meccano set as a kid and so I hadn’t learnt the important rule that you shouldn’t try assembling it when you’re sitting on a deep-pile rug. One clumsy elbow later and I was staring at an upturned box with all of the little bits and pieces strewn over the rug. After crawling around on my hands and knees I managed to pick up most of the pieces, but I’m still missing two all important locking nuts that I need to complete the jib. I even tried vacuuming the rug to no avail. Knowing my luck, some time in the future - when I’ve completely forgotten about my Meccano incident - I’ll end up treading on it with bare feet.

I’m almost done! It has pulleys and everything! However I’ve noticed that it’s started to sag to one side, which is a bit of a concern lol. I haven’t put the weight of the GF1 on it yet, but I have my fingers crossed that it works. Video will come soon!
