Huffy Slider

Today Simon helped me pick up the Huffy Slider I won on an eBay auction. Most car enthusiasts would’ve seen this YouTube clip and it obviously made me want a Huffy Slider straight away. For a year or so I’ve passively kept an eye out for one, but as they’re discontinued finding one for sale was a rare occurrence. I ended up paying a bit for this one than I would’ve like to - thanks to a six-way bidding war at the end - but I reckon we’ll get a hell of a lot of fun out of it. I lucked into a mint condition one that, besides broken brakes and a flat tyre, was tip-top. All of the original parts are as new and intact, including the ghey handle bar wrap.

After work we gave it a test run down the carpark ramp, which wasn’t a particularly bright idea considering the brakes weren’t working. There’s a pretty funny video of Herman speeding down the ramp, only to realise he’s careening straight towards the concrete wall at the bottom. Just before impact he stuck his legs out, sacrificing his body for our trike.

It’s quite hard to drift as is, mainly because our knees hit the handle bars. I’m going to modify it a fair bit after #85’s deadline is finished, and I’ve already been chatting to Justin the bike guru about some of the parts I plan to fit. I’m even thinking of ways to alter the rear alignment and centre of gravity to make it slide more. No matter what however, I know this latest toy is going to end up a disaster. Either I’m going to waste a stupid amount of money on what is a kid’s toy, or I’m going to end up hurting myself. Regardless I’m still keen on sliding this thing!
