Another weekend gone

House hunting continues

Saturday mornings are a prized possession of mine, as I can sleep in and be a zombie. However with house hunting now in full swing, I had to wake up early for a barrage of inspections. First up was an apartment in Randwick which looked pretty good on paper: top floor, corner position, external storage and massive balcony. However it turned out to be a big disappointment in person. The complex had a high school vibe to it (and no one wants to return home to that), the balcony view was of the adjoining building’s roof, and the apartment was nowhere near as expansive as it looked in the photos (fish-eye lens trickery). This one was a straight out ‘no’, which was kind of nice as the previous few apartments were all ‘maybes’.

Again I popped into my old place Portico, this time to check out a new listing. The quirky thing about Portico is that most of the apartments have unique layouts, and since they rarely go up for sale, buyers often have to compromise. Unfortunately for me this apartment had it all - except for a parking spot.

Unique bathroom layout with a seperate shower room.

After lunch at Makoto and a haircut it was off to Pyrmont to check out the M Central warehouse conversion. When our office was in neighbouring Ultimo I used to follow the build of this complex, but for whatever reason I never got around to actually checking it out.

Trippy orange colour schemes and exposed beams make M Central’s hallways seem like an underground bunker.

Here’s the scale model showing off the rooftop garden.

Here’s what it’s like in person. The garden is absolutely massive and there’s a private BBQ/entertaining area that residents can book for gatherings.

Definitely peaceful, although we did stumble across a couple making out!

Nice useable layout.

Bathrooms were good too.

Most of the apartments here have galley kitchens, but this top floor one had a proper kitchen. Like Portico, the apartments on the higher floors are fitted with better appliances.

One of the apartments I was booked in to view was filled with half a dozen international students. The agent’s constant knocking went unanswered, and so when she opened it up she was rather shocked to find so many people asleep. Seeing an apartment crammed to the brim with bunk beds and study desks isn’t a good way to sell an apartment, especially when one of the tenants has left a nice big floater in the toilet as well!
