Ramen-Kan

Ramen-Kan

Coincidentally I ate Japanese for the second night in a row, this time at Ramen-Kan in Bondi Junction. I’m a fan of their restaurant in the city, so I was keen to see if this branch was just as good.

Ramen-Kan

Gyoza, the no-brainer entree when it comes to Japanese food.

Ramen-Kan

Usually I get their spicy tan-tan ramen, but it was a bit too hot today for that. So I randomly chose this pork-based ramen off their menu. The pickled ginger was a bit weird to find in the ramen though.

Ramen-Kan

Aloe with white grape soft drink. Schweet.

Koh-Ya

After William, Hons and Mark helped me move house, I was meant to return the favour by shouting them dinner. Sure it’s been a few months since I moved, but better late than never right? So tonight I took them to the all-you-can-eat Japanese bbq at Koh-Ya, situated just over the Harbour Bridge in Neutral Bay. I eat here probably half a dozen times a year, and each time it’s really enjoyable.

Can’t bring myself to do it

The Sopranos

Although I have cable, I like to watch my favourite TV shows in extended sittings, so DVD is still my preferred medium. However, one show I can’t bring myself to complete is the last season of The Sopranos. I’ve had it sitting on the shelf for ages, and although I’m often tempted, I can’t bring myself to finish it off because I know there will be no more. I should start a bring-The-Sopranos-back petition…

Beer abstinence

Red wine

Recently I decided to cut down on my beer intake, instead switching to my other fav, red wine. Australia is fortunate to have some absolutely killer wines, and today I spent an hour picking out half a dozen different bottles of merlots and cab savs. Ended up costing a couple hundred bucks, but if the first bottle is anything to go buy, it’ll be worth every penny!

Dwight Schrute (The Office) bobble head

That mysterious package turned out to be a delivery from NBC Universal!

Dwight Schrute (The Office) bobble head

Sure this might be sacrilegious to some, but I’m a big fan of the U.S. version of The Office rather than original U.K. version. Personally I think it’s just a matter of which one you watched first ends up being the one you like more.

Dwight Schrute (The Office) bobble head

Dwight Schrute rocks. More so in bobble head version!

Suspense kills

Posted on January 27, 2009

Sorry we missed you...

Without doubt, one of my pet hates is being left in suspense. I don’t like build up. Heck I don’t even like surprises. So finding this in the mail has left me head-scratching, as for the life of me I can’t think what it could possibly be. Since it was left in my home’s letterbox, it can’t be the usual DVDs, catalogues or products that I receive at work. So what the hell is it? As FedEx’s Sydney HQ is located in the same suburb as my office, I’ll be stopping in during my lunch break rather than waiting for them to come around again (the whole anti-suspense thingy you see).

BAPE tee

BAPE t-shirt

Picked this up in Japan as well (OK OK I’m still unpacking). I’ve already mentioned that I wasn’t particularly impressed with BAPE’s 09 winter collection, although this tee did catch my eye. I haven’t bought a BAPE t-shirt for a few years now, so was surprised to see some new tags. The ‘Made in Japan’ is pretty large, perhaps for identification in the midst of so many counterfeits coming out of China.

BAPE t-shirt

Simple one colour print on the top of the back.

BAPE t-shirt

Small size was sold out at their Shibuya store, but BAPExclusive in Aoyama had one left.

Happy Chinese New Year! I’m getting a bit old to still be receiving red pockets, but I’m not complaining!

Have you ever seen dark cherries the size of these? They’re literally the size of golf balls! Yum.

Propagating

After working late into the night, I was rather enjoying my snooze on Saturday morning when my phone started ringing. And ringing. And beeping. Still zombied (I’m most certainly not a morning person), I put the phone on silent and kept on sleeping. When I eventually awoke, I was met with half a dozen text messages, missed calls, some BBM messages and an email or two asking what the hell happened to my blog. Eh?

Bleary eyed I stumbled onto the computer and typed the URL in, and sure enough I was met with this smug looking blonde instead of a photo of what I ate the night before. What the! Turns out that for whatever reason, the Empty Wrapper domain wasn’t on a direct debit like my other domains (strange as they were all done with the same company at the same time), and as my luck would have it, their warning emails went straight into my work email’s spam abyss. And because of the wonderful need to have it propagated again, I (and you too I’m afraid) have had to stare at this girl and her damn backpack for the past couple days. My bad!

World’s greatest tape measure

Posted on January 23, 2009

Tape measure

Spotted Garth playing with this in the office today. Kula gave it to him as a gift from Japan, and I reckon it’s undoubtedly the coolest tape measure I’ve ever seen. It’s a tiny train, and the cloth tape is printed like a subway map.

Tape measure

This is something I so want.
